ABOUT IKAWA

IKAWA means coffee in Kirundi—the national language of Burundi, where founder, Andrew Stordy, spent much of his childhood and where the IKAWA concept was born. As an engineer and industrial designer, Andrew wanted to help bridge the gap between coffee farmers and buyers by creating a roaster that could produce consistent and repeatable results to make excellent sample roasting simple and accessible.

From the idea phase in 2010, the original IKAWA Pro Sample Roaster debuted at the SCA World of Coffee in 2012, with continual improvement of the product and accompanying app ever since. Now in service in over 100 countries around the world, IKAWA roasters have become an essential tool for coffee businesses of all types—empowering collaboration and information sharing throughout the coffee supply chain.
